BLOG 7: ANIMATED DISNEY/PIXAR CHARACTER
Hello to everyone, today I'm going to write about Helen Parr, better known as Elastigirl, a superhero and super feminist icon in Disney's cartoon world.
In the beginning of The Incredibles, we can see Elastigirl as an independent woman that fights the villains and criminals with her elasticity and stealth, being one of the few "super" women.
Nevertheless, many accidents around the country were caused by the actions of the "super", provoking the Anti-Super law to be approved. In consequence, Helen had to give up her career as super, and already married to Mr. Incredible/ Bob Parr, she started to be a housewife dedicated to her children: Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack.
To the passage of the film, it's possible watch how Helen recovers her female power thanks to, mainly, Edna Mode and her iconic phrase: "You are Elastigirl! Pull-yourself-together. What will you do? Is this a question? You will show him you remember that he is Mr. Incredible, and you will remind him who you are. Well, you know where he is. Go, confront the problem, fight! Win!".
I like this character for two reasons. First, one of the people I love the most, my aunt, it's named Helen. Second, I think that Elastigirl belongs to a small group of female "old" Disney cartoons that are represented as figures capable of fighting adversity. Although Helen is a housewife, Elastigirl is part of her identity, and she is a "super".
