BLOG 9: Changes to my study programme
Hi to everyone! Today I'm going to talk about some changes that I would do on my study programme. As I said in other blog, I'm studying social work, so that the subjects of my career are very related with social justice, investigation, society, economy, statistics, gender, among others. The study programme of Social Work, in this university, reflects an interest by our academics to train critical thinking social workers capable of, mainly, investigative work. For other people, this can be annoying, because is a lot of theory and little practice. Personally, I like it, so it is not something that I would change. However, I think the problem is in what kind of theory we receive and the way in which we do it.
In the first year and semester, there is a subject called "Fundamentals of Social Work". I think the problem with this subject is that it requires a lot of reading comprehension, even when you're just entering in university. Which causes that you have inevitable voids in your learning. Also, I think that subject doesn't focus on what social workers were, just in the modernity -as the period where social work was born-.
About the workload and length of studies, I think that, because of "paros", we have had less overhead than maybe we should have had. For that reason, even I sometimes feel overwhelmed, I guess that it is part of study. On the other hand, my career have five years of lenght, and I agree with that.
However, related with faculty facilities, FACSO, I think that is ugly, the classrooms are small, but at least there is toilet paper in the bathrooms, and we also have water dispensers. I prefer aularios.
About the use of technology, the career of Social Work request its use for statistics's subject. Also to obviously doing tests and works.
Finally, I want to talk about the teaching methods. I think that they are very traditional, except, the way of the form of the practices, since these consist of a modality called "nuclei". There are many options, from the themes of feminism and gender to public policies. It is a modality that no other university uses.

I agree with you that facso is not very aesthetic but I feel that it is very cozy
